Why i cant get a girlfriend ? am i doing it right things in 'picking them up'?

Okay, first of all the term "picking them up" implies that you're in some bar and you're scouting random girls to hook up with. If you're using this term you totally have the wrong idea about relationships, and possibly are not even ready for one. I'd say for you to continue developing your personality and maybe join some clubs or something to meet new people instead of staying inside and reading books and playing your guitar. You'll meet someone eventually, and it's usually best when you start out friends and it progresses into something more. =)
