Why is it a stereotype that teens are all insolent, violent, and hate their parents?

im 16, and im respectful, i love life and detest violence and love spending time with my mom...it might just be the fact that im uber wierd(i catch mice, love animals, hate parties and loud music, and i could care less what people think of me) but i have friends who feel the same way... so is it just, like, a stereotype because of all these tv shows on today, where teens sneak out on a regular basis and hate their families?
