What key points should my boyfriend address to his parents about co-signing for a home loan?

Why does your boyfriend need a co-signer for the loan? Of course she was glad you were looking for a house but why should she have to co-sign she doesn't owe him anything she has done her job. If he has been irresponsible with his credit why would she jeapordize hers?
